To reopen safely in the COVID-19 pandemic and maximize the use of in-person instruction, schools need sufficient resources, as well as strong state and local public health measures that everyone follows. Consistent implementation of effective strategies for preventing the transmission of COVID-19 during all school-related activities is critical for reopening schools—and keeping them open. It is also important to recognize that communities of color and people with disabilities or chronic conditions have borne a disproportionate burden of illness and serious outcomes from COVID-19 and require additional considerations.
